In this new feature on our website you can read all about Sport Across Scotland – what’s happening, where, and how to get involved.
Scotland is bursting at the seams throughout 2007 with major sporting events, competitions and cultural festivals. Here we bring you a taster of the this year’s highlights and you can find out more by clicking on the links below. Play your part in helping Scotland win the bid to host the Commonwealth Games by participating in and supporting sport across Scotland. It would be great to see you there!
Glasgow 2014 has attracted the support of over 1.7m individuals and organisations from Glasgow, Scotland and from across the world. The Games will benefit everyone in Scotland and a huge part of our efforts to date have been aimed at travelling around the country, meeting people, including some well known faces, and telling them about our plans.

Our Outreach Officer Lesley Shaw has been criss-crossing the country, telling people about the Bid at the Melrose Rugby 7s, the opening of Gourock Outdoor Swimming Pool, at the Great Britain Super-League Hockey in Edinburgh, the West Lothian 5k, the Mull Rugby 7s, and the International 7s series at Murrayfield where Commonwealth countries such as Jamaica, Fiji, South Africa, Scotland, England, New Zealand and Australia were competing.

As well as sporting events Lesley has also been attending some of the great cultural festivals in Scotland, the Bid Mobile being the centre of attention at Castle Green in Stranraer, the Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Dumbarton and at the Hebridean Celtic Festival on the Isle of Lewis.
And where will we be next? Over the summer the Bid Team will be at the Bridge of Allen Highland Games (5th August), the UCI Mountain Biking Championships in Fort William (4th-9th September) and the Loopallu Festival in Ullapool (21st-22nd September).

It would be great to see you at any of the hundreds of brilliant competitions, tournaments and challenges taking place this year. We would also love you to tell us about sporting events happening where you are – email us at media2014@glasgow.gov.uk and let us know what is happening in your area or with your sport.
