Selling the message – Glasgow 2014 on their travels

It's been a busy couple of weeks for the Glasgow 2014 Bid Team. As well as all the hard work that is going into making sure that the Candidate City File is ready on time, members of the team have been on their travels meeting with the people who will be voting on the 2014 Host City.

St Vincent & the Grenadines: Derek Casey (Bid Director), Keith Joseph (Sec Gen), Louise Martin (Chairman CGCS), Trevor Bailey (President).

The rules for the 2014 Games say that each bidding city is allowed to travel to the 71 countries of the Commonwealth in order to meet with them and discuss their Bid. As we are in such a tight race, these visits are a crucial part of the bidding process. Not just because we get to present to the voters – but we also get to listen to them and understand what it is they think makes a great Games.

As well as visiting individual Commonwealth Countries, we are also allowed to go to Regional Meetings of countries. In the past few weeks, the team have been in Malawi for the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa annual conference and in the Bahamas for the Caribbean equivalent. These two meetings alone gave us the opportunity to present our plans to over 30 voting countries! Making these two trips among the most important of the entire bidding process.

We learned a lot from the trips. We heard lots of different views and ideas – all of which will be invaluable as we move towards submitting the Candidate City File in May next year. There is a lot of hard work ahead in this toughest of contests. We know that we can win the race. We know that we can bring the 2014 Games to Scotland.
