Glasgow 2014 Team continue their visits

The Team from Glasgow 2014 recently visited Asia on the first leg of visits to Commonwealth Games Associations in Asia. The team travelled to 4 countries over 5 days, presenting to voting members and sporting bodies as well as hosting a Reception in each country. All visits were well attended and we were grateful for the response from each of the meetings – both to the formal presentations and the Question and Answer sessions. Countries visited included Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

In line with Glasgow's focus on an athlete centred bid, Commonwealth Bronze Medallist Lee McConnell accompanied the team on part of the visit. Lee spoke to audiences in Singapore and Sri Lanka, and focused on what Glasgow and Scotland mean to her and what it would mean to the people of Scotland to host the Games in 2014. On a lighter note, Lee's running talent came in handy when her plane was delayed and she had 40 minutes to make it from Singapore Airport to the Hotel to do her presentation. And in true winning style she made it with 10 minutes to spare!

The next round of visits to the remaining Asian countries will take place in January 2007, ensuring all visits to are complete by the May deadline.
