Fantastic Weekend of Cycling for Glasgow

Glasgow has enjoyed a fantastic weekend of professional and amateur cycling, with both the Tour of Britain and Pedal for Scotland taking place in the city.

Great Britain’s Paul Manning won the final stage of The Tour of Britain, as Romain Feillu claimed the overall victory in the amazing race across the country.

The Tour of Britain finish attracted thousands of fans to Glasgow Green to see the international cycling stars - as well as Manning and Feilly claiming their victories, Bean Swift took the King of the Mountains title, and Mark Cavendish scooped both the Sprints Jersey and Points Jersey prizes.

On Sunday the Pedal For Scotland charity event was given a push start in rather wet conditions by Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, and former Downing Street communications boss Alastair Campbell, who was raising money for Leukaemia Research UK.

Close to 3,000 riders made the journey between Glasgow and Edinburgh, despite the wet conditions, and were cheered off from the Glasgow Green startline, where the road cycling events would take place should Glasgow win the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
