Glasgow launches Holiday Programme

Despite the occasional downpour over 500 people enjoyed the first family fun day at Nethercraigs Sports Complex on Saturday (30th June), which launched Glasgow City Council’s Holiday Programme for summer.

There was plenty of puffing and panting as kids took part in a rugby session lead by under 18 Scotland internationalists Steven Reilly, David Crangle and coaches from local side the Darnley Devils.

Making noise was the order of the day with a drumming workshop and live music provided by Wawalak, a woman’s drumming group from Govan.  For those who preferred to get there hands dirty there was a pottery workshop, face painting and henna tattoo workshop.  But getting fit was the order of the day in the year the city is bidding to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, with an inflatable assault course, football festival, climbing wall, cycling skills and Activ8 fitness area.

Over 200,000 children will take parts in hundreds of local activities and events across Glasgow during the school holidays.  For a full list of all the activities taking place right across the city check out http://www.holidayprogramme.glasgow.gov.uk/
