GLASGOW 2014 TEAM DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY IN SRI LANKA

Members of the Glasgow 2014 team in Sri Lanka held a special Ceilidh
yesterday (Wednesday 7th November) in the team hotel in honour of the
Commonwwealth Games Federation General Assembly. The Ceilidh was
hosted by Louise Martin, chairman of the Commonwealth Games Council
for Scotland, First Minister Alex Salmond and Glasgow City Council
Leader Steven Purcell.

Athletes Gavin Hastings and Jamie Quarry were first up on the floor
for the dance, to which delegates from all 71 Commonwealth countries
were invited.

On Friday Glasgow will find out if the city is to host the
Commonwealth Games in 2014. Tomorrow the delegates will vote at the
General Assembly.

Other athletes including Lee McConnell, Steve Frew, and Shirley Webb
also joined in the fun, with the First Minister leading the 300-strong
crowd in a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Sine.

There was also entertainment from the Peatbog Faeries, the Sri Lankan
Navy and local dancers.
