The week leading up to the 9th of November in Sri Lanka was full of anticipation for the athletes, officials and the Bid Team as we waited for decision day.

The presentation party of First Minister Alex Salmond, Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell, Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland Chair Louise Martin and athlete Jamie Quarry prepared for the crucial final presentation to the General Assembly of the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The Glasgow 2014 team also hosted a social evening in Sri Lanka, which included Sri Lankan dancers, music from Scottish band the Peatbog Faeries and ceilidh dancing.

On November 9th the vote was taken about the host city for the Commonwealth Games in 2014 - and we won! Glasgow gained 47 of the 71 votes on offer from CGF delegates, and will host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
