For Organisations

We have lots of ideas for your organisation whether you are a company large or small, a local authority, a sports club or a voluntary organisation. On November 9 we hope that everyone in Scotland will watch the Bid Decision from Sri Lanka, which will decide whether Glasgow or Abuja, Nigeria are to host the Games.

As well as watching the decision live from Sri Lanka on TV, listening to the radio, or watching the web streaming online at this website, why not organise an event in your office, club or in the community? Here are some ideas:

  • Trainers and Tracksuit To Work Day: involve your staff on November 9 by having a sports themed dress-down day. Everyone could wear their trainers and fitness gear to work and get involved in competitions and challenges around your workplace. This is an easy way to get your staff involved and get everyone talkng about their sporting activities outside the office
  • Sport at Work: how good are you? Organise a mini-tournament of a Commonwealth sport where you are: a table tennis table might be something you could fit into your workspace. Or why not organise sporting activities out of the office, such as running, swimming, netball or badminton.  Or you can try our Long Jump Game online and see who reaches the highest score!
  • Download our Commonwealth quiz and the Quiz answers and start a championship around the office
  • Have a Commonwealth lunch: there are 71 countries and territories in the Commonwealth, from Australia to Malta, and Wales to Singapore. Ask your in-house catering if they could theme any of the menu on November 9, or how about a morning brunch of delicacies from around the world: Lamington cakes from Australia, cookies from Canada, fruit from South Africa and the Caribbean, banana and mango smoothies from India.
  • Come to one of the public venues: if you are in Glasgow on November 9 why not take an early lunch and some along to one of the public venues where there will be large screens showing the Bid Decision live from Sri Lanka, at Tollcross and Scotstoun Leisure Centres. If you are outside of Glasgow ask your local authority what they have planned.
