Mondo UK Ltd, as Official Provider of athletic tracks sport equipment, is pleased to be part of the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

After Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006, this is the third recent Commonwealth Games contract awarded to the Mondo Group as a whole, and Mondo UK's second major event, after the 2012 London Olympics.

To date, more than 230 world records have been set on Mondo tracks and we look forward to the athletes’ performances in Hampden Park Stadium with keen anticipation.

The Glasgow 2014 design team came up with a unique and innovative solution for accommodating the outdoor track in the Hampden Park soccer stadium. As with all soccer facilities, the infield was too small.

In order to overcome this problem, Glasgow decided to create a temporarily raised infield. This platform stands 1.9m above the normal playing field and covers several rows of seats. As such, it can easily accommodate the 400m track and outfield area.

It also improves sight lines, with a stunning finished result that surpasses many purpose-built stadiums with a similar capacity.

In order to keep disruption of the Hampden Park sports calendar to a minimum, the decision was taken to fast-track construction work in winter and early spring.

A key to the success of this plan was the choice of Mondo tracks for both the main stadium and the warm-up area. Widely acclaimed as the preferred surface for major events*, Mondo tracks are prefabricated so they can be laid quicker, and in less-than-perfect conditions.

Before being shipped to site, the prefabricated Mondo track was tested for compliancy. The approved material was then installed section-by-section under a portable tent structure, 250sqm at a time.

We look forward to the first pre-Games events on this track, the Scottish Schools Test Event and the IAAF Diamond League.
