Alan Mitchelson

Alan is an Independent Director on the Glasgow 2014 Board.

He is the Legal and Commercial Director of the Weir Group. Alan joined the Weir Group in 2000. He is part of the executive team which has restructured the business, made a number of key acquisitions and last year delivered record profits. His responsibilities include risk management and corporate governance which is particularly relevant to Glasgow 2014.

A graduate of Aberdeen University, Alan was a criminal lawyer before the arrival of the oil industry. A number of years were spent in the oil services sector before joining Trafalgar House, where he was legal advisor in Scotland and heavily involved in major contracts including the oil rigs and shipbuilding at Scot Lithgow on the Clyde and part of the reconstruction of the St Enoch Centre.

He was a Legal and Personnel Director for the Highland Distillers Company plc for almost 14 years, during which time it made substantial investment in the Remy Cointreau group of companies and acquired the Macallan brand.
