Alphus Hinds
Security Manager

Alphus, in his own words on working at Glasgow 2014

The principle aim of safety, as I prefer to call it, rather than security is to ensure that we have a safe, peaceful Games, where we can have the celebration of the friendly Games. Visitors, athletes and friends will be able to come along and enjoy with freedom and peace of mind. The key aspects of my work are working closely with Strathclyde Police, as well as with the other key security and emergency service stakeholders to ensure that we deliver an outstanding Games.

Opportunities that I see at Glasgow 2014 stem around being able to help redefine the public safety and security models for major events. So often the security model may be a little bit imposing but we truly have an opportunity now to make it athlete centric and sport focused.

There is also a huge opportunity to create a legacy for the city and Scotland. This will be a significant consideration throughout everything that we do, from procuring new equipment through to providing a platform to harness specialist expertise, which will become part of the repertoire of Scotland. This will develop sound knowledge to transfer to future Commownealth Games and be sold on to assist other nations in delivering major sporting events.
