Greg, in his own words on working at Glasgow
2014
With sport at the heart of the Games, we have the opportunity to
make sure that we can promote sport within Glasgow and Scotland,
but importantly so that we can deliver a Games that attracts the
world’s best athletes.
Organising a multi-sport event such as the Commonwealth Games
has lots of challenges that we need to overcome, but more so
opportunities. I think perhaps, the biggest challenge for me is the
integration of each of the seventeen sports – making sure that we
provide the international standard for each of those sports to the
level that allows the athletes to be able to perform at their
best.
But also at the same time, making sure that each of the sports
get equal exposure, that they’re all promoted equally and that
really we have seventeen sports in the Games programme and that’s a
great opportunity.
The Organising Committee has people from all around the world -
from different cultures, different background and different
experiences. So, it’s a great opportunity to be able to meet new
people, to be able work alongside people that have specialist
skills, but also to be able make sure that we can drive towards the
same goal, which is ultimately delivering an outstanding Games in
2014.
So that’s a great opportunity for me to be able to develop my
knowledge, my skill set and then hopefully, when it comes to the
end of the Games, that I’ll be able to move on to another great
career opportunity.
Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is really a once in a generation
opportunity for the people of Glasgow and Scotland to be part of
what is a major, multi-sport event.
