Entertainment, Culture & Restaurants
Reiterating its status as one of the world's most desirable
places to work, study or simply enjoy a weekend visit, Glasgow has
been described as Scotland's thriving central metropolis. From live
music to theatre, curling to opera, ballet to film and football,
Glasgow has the amenities for a wide range of cultural and
entertainment activities.
For film goers there are modern multiplexes along with the
classic Glasgow Film Theatre. Glasgow’s popular arts scene
continues to experience a huge upturn. Most of Scotland’s national
arts organisations are based in Glasgow, including the Royal
Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra,
the National Theatre of Scotland and the Scottish Youth
Theatre.
Many successful Scottish bands were formed in Glasgow and the
city has numerous live music venues; including the Royal Concert
Hall, the Clyde Auditorium (or the Armadillo as it’s commonly
known), the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) and
the O2 Academy, south of the River Clyde.
Glasgow has museums dedicated to transport, modern art, religion
and science and many are free. The Mitchell Library, one of the
largest public reference libraries in Europe, stocks more than 1.3
million books and is based in the city centre.
With so many different cultural and entertainment possibilities,
Glasgow offers something for everyone, whatever it is you’re
looking for.
