Cast blogs: Chimuka Nymutale

When Chimuka first heard that the Handover team were selecting cast members from across Scotland for the Handover Ceremony he couldn't pass up the once in a lifetime opportunity and sent away his application. Find out what he is looking forward to the most about performing in the 60,000 capacity Jawaharlal Stadium and how he got on meeting his fellow cast memebrs during the Orientation Day:

A life changing experience

My first impressions of Delhi were - I need air conditioning, fast and now! It was very humid. The city, what we saw of it, was full of amazing architecture and just seemed so full of history and culture. You could feel it was a very vibrant and busy city. The first things we did were check into our hotel, get to know our living environment and see our stage, the JLN Stadium.

I feel that I have learned so much. In fact so much, you wouldn't even believe it!

I have learned many things. Improved communication skills, team work, punctuality, respect and personally, I feel like I have gained so much confidence!

Every bit of my being was excited for the performance and I was not disappointed. It was awesome and nothing like I have ever experienced before.

The performance itself was breathtaking and I experienced a sense of euphoria. It went so well and to hear so many people screaming and cheering made us all feel really proud.

The overall experience was amazing. The cast were fantastic! The production team were fantastic and, from beginning to end, I felt honoured and proud. The Bootcamp was quite mentally draining but the hard work was so worthwhile. I would definitely volunteer again, no doubt!!

The Games coming to Glasgow will be great, both economically and socially. The whole of Glasgow and Scotland should be proud and grateful that we are hosting the Games in 2014 and I, myself hope, with hard work and sheer determination that I will be competing! Watch this space!!

It has been a great experience and I am so honoured to have been a part of it.

First week at Bootcamp

The first part of Bootcamp has been really good. Quite hectic as we are learning so much. We have been working with all the Crew and have really enjoyed seeing how it is all coming together. I really like working with my team and we are dealing with quite a complicated part of the performance, but my team are a great bunch and I am really getting on well with them all. We keep each other going. I have really enjoyed it so far.

We have being getting taught some really complicate choreograph which is quite exhausting mentally because you really have to pay attention. The choreographers are really good though. I have met some great people and I really enjoyed The Ceilidh with all the Cast and Crew. It was brilliant.

I feel like I am really getting loads out of the experience of Bootcamp. The experience of doing something that’s much bigger than just you and being part of a huge team, but all working together. It’s an opportunity that would just be too great to pass up.

I am really excited about going to Delhi but I don’t think it will sink in until I am on a plane and then I will actually believe it!

The truth is I am just desperate to get there now and actually show people our performance. It is amasing and now I just want the world to see it.

I think that we will make Scotland very proud.

The moment we found out

I first heard about the Handover Ceremony through my youth support worker who told me that the Flag Handover team were looking for people from different areas of Scotland to take part and represent Scotland at the Delhi Flag Handover. It sounded like a fantastic once in a life time experience so I decided to fill the application form stating why I would like to go and how I think I could contribute.

To be involved in something like this is truly amazing as it’s like nothing I have ever done to before and will be a new challenge and that is always good. To gain such a rare experience and opportunity is something I am relishing to do and will grab with both hands. I am excited about going to Delhi were we will be able to see different cultures from ours and integrate with people from all over the World. Also on the bigger picture, to be able to be part of a team that’s going out to represent Scotland, show and invite the world into Scottish culture for the Games in 2014 will also be exciting so am geared and ready for the challenge.

So far in preparing for Delhi, I have taken part in the Orientation which involved trying out costumes, taking photos, giving the Handover Team my medical details and generally getting ready for our performance. Whilst at the Orientation I was amazed by the huge number of people involved and the presentation we were given, it sort of put the huge scale of what we were doing into context. Next up is Bootcamp, which I think will be fun but suspect will involve rigorous training in order for us to deliver a breathtaking performance to the World. I consider myself to be already fit but I will need to make sure my dance moves are in sync and top form!

For me, my drive comes from knowing that this will be an amazing experience. I have always been taught to make the most of what I have and grab any opportunity given to me in which I can excel and develop myself personally whilst also making others proud. Only this time it will be the whole of Scotland!
