Genius move by Glasgow 2014 to appoint latest member of growing Sponsor Family

Glasgow 2014 today (Tuesday 24 June) unveiled Genius Gluten Free as the Official Provider of Gluten Free Baked Products at the Commonwealth Games.

This will include a selection of the company’s range of bread, rolls, pastries, pancakes and pies with bite-sized samples of the produce to be available at the Genius stand at the Glasgow Green Live Zone.

Glasgow Green Live Zone will operate from July 23 to August 3 and is the largest of the interactive Festival 2014 venues.

It is a specially designed site at the heart of the city, where live sports, live performance and participative arts and sports for all the family come together to create a unique Games experience.

Genius will feature at the giant food village within the Glasgow Green Live Zone, known as ‘The Kitchen’ as part of a house party theme and will offer visitors a fun and lively space where they can learn about a gluten free lifestyle and sample a host of Gluten Free products.

Professionally trained chef, Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, founded Genius in 2009 with her first ever gluten-free loaf after failing to find good quality gluten-free and wheat-free bread suitable for her gluten intolerant son.

Since the first listing of Genius bread in a major supermarket, Lucinda has overseen the creation of the UK’s leading bakery brand within the Free-From category with over 20 products and the company has won numerous awards.

Glasgow 2014 has worked in collaboration with Scottish Government partners, the Food Standards Agency - Scotland, and the food industry to develop a Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Food Charter.

As well as showcasing the Scottish larder, it outlines a commitment to the ethical, safe, and healthy-living standards for all food served across the Games, including traceability.

The provenance of food, where it comes from and how it has been produced, is central to the Charter which will establish Games-time food sourcing standards.

Glasgow 2014 seeks to showcase Scottish produce to help contribute to the wider industry ambition to grow the value of the sector and develop Scotland’s reputation as a Land of Food and Drink.

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive, David Grevemberg, said:

“The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is an opportunity to showcase Scotland’s outstanding produce and the values behind it to our visitors from across the globe.

"We are pleased to welcome Genius Gluten Free as the latest member of our Sponsor Family. This gluten-free food option at the Glasgow Green Live Zone adds to the huge diversity of food available for those attending the Games."

Roz Cuschieri, Genius Chief Executive, said:

“We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, which will undoubtedly prove to be one of the most exciting international sporting events to take place this year.

“The Commonwealth Games is a defining moment for the nation and being at the Games is a fantastic opportunity for Genius to offer athletes and visitors a taste of our gluten free range at the Genius stand on Glasgow Green.  We’re looking forward to being part of such an extraordinary event, and we wish all competing athletes the very best of luck.”
