Explore Glasgow A Day of Luxury
Feature

If you were surprising somebody with a special day out in Glasgow, what would it involve?

We asked our creative bunch of Facebook fans for their ideas, and they came up with this itinerary full of useful local tips for a luxurious day in this stylish, friendly and exciting city.

Ann Robertson would start the day with a pamper session at the stylish Blythswood Square Spa, before treating her friend to a tour of some of her favourite places in the city.

“Take a wee trip to the magnificent People’s Palace, the Glasgow Women’s Library, and the West Brewery in the old Templeton factory. Then have a look around the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome – what at an asset for the East End.”

If all of that exploring works up an appetite, Lesley Stanich from Clydebank recommends a bite to eat at the Willow Tea Rooms on Buchanan Street or Sauchiehall Street.

“It’s a hard decision between the lemon meringue pie and the strawberry tart!”

Imran Mohammed from Parklands has some great ideas for a special day in the city for his wife.

“As everybody knows, there is absolutely no place in Scotland that offers you so much in one day like Glasgow.”

Imran would take his wife to the variety of shops on the Style Mile, and marvel at the exhibits on display at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, situated next to the Kelvingrove Lawns Bowls Centre in the West End.

“To finish things off, I would have two surprise tickets to see her favourite musician at the new SSE Hydro.”

When the day draws to a close, Karyn Queen from Dunfermline suggests heading to Ashton Lane to soak up Glasgow’s nightlife.

“We would eat and drink in any one of the restaurants in Ashton Lane, and we'd definitely stay until it was dark so we could appreciate the cobbled street and twinkly lights.”

Glasgow 2014 Facebook fan Joanne Gallagher already has a once-in-a-lifetime day out planned for 3 August 2014.

“My special day will be in Hampden Stadium at the Closing Ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. It will be my birthday, and hopefully I’ll be volunteering, too!”

There are still some tickets available for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games, as well as a range of exciting sports events. Why not surprise somebody with a ticket, and make a day of luxury in Glasgow truly unforgettable? Buy tickets now.
