Delhi flag handover - One year on

Today marks exactly one year since the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi experienced a remarkable Scottish makeover with 352 young Scottish performers bringing tartan, bagpipes, and the Loch Ness monster to the 60,000 people in attendance.

All 32 local authorities were represented, from the Highlands to the Borders and across to the Islands, dancers shone with enthusiasm and pride for what they had learned and really made an impression on what the Games in Glasgow will represent.

Bagpiper Jonathan Graham had the honour of leading the procession with a fantastic display of blaring out the famous Scottish instrument and he told Glasgow2014.com what he was feeling at the moment of entering the arena:

“I can’t believe it’s a year on since the Delhi Handover Ceremony. It was all a bit of a blur to be honest, we’d all done so much in the run up to the event so the sheer magnitude of everything combined with the nerves and excitement made it all an amazing experience.”

With the games just over a 1000 days away now, the hype is rising and Jonathan thinks that the closing ceremony certainly put a stamp on what is to come from the Games being held in Scotland:

“I’ve had a look back at the video a few times and it really makes you proud to represent Scotland on such a global stage. It was amazing that the people of Scotland came together to put on a fantastic show for the rest of the world and get them excited about the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.”
