22 Modern Apprentices from Glasgow City Council were invited to gather at Glasgow City Chambers today to mark the 50 days to go countdown to the Delhi 2010 Flag Handover Ceremony. The Modern Apprentices will form part of the 348 strong Mass Cast performing an eight minute creative programme on October 14.
The performance, which will involve a mass choreographed dance routine in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, will be seen by a capacity crowd of 60,000 for the Delhi 2010 Closing Ceremony.

The 348 Mass Cast members are preparing for three weeks of rehearsals at Bootcamp in September.
                                                                                                                                                                                           

Councillor Archie Graham, Deputy Leader of Glasgow City Council and Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games said:

“I am delighted that apprentices from Glasgow City Council and its arm length organisations, including many taken on through the Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative (CAI), will be among those representing the city in Delhi.”

“These young people are getting a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in an event that will be beamed around the world to an estimated TV audience of 1 billion viewers. I wish them all the very best of luck.”

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive John Scott said:

“The Delhi 2010 Flag Handover Ceremony is a very exciting milestone for Glasgow 2014, as from this point on, Glasgow will officially be the next Host City for Commonwealth Games.”

“This is a marvellous opportunity to showcase the wealth of talent, culture and personality that Glasgow and Scotland has to offer. This is a small taster as to what people can expect at Glasgow 2014.”

Nicholas Kane, 20. Modern Apprentice from Coatbridge said:

“I am very excited about going to Delhi. I am really curious to know what we will be doing. I think it’s all being kept top secret so that the actual ceremony will be a big surprise for everyone. So, I am really looking forward to Bootcamp to find out!”

Chris Mullen, 29. Modern Apprentice from the Gorbals said:

“Although I think Bootcamp will be quite tough, I think it will be an amasing experience. I am really looking forward to Delhi. It’ll be a wee bit different from joinery!”
