SYT support SYT and back Glasgow 2014 campaign!

Scottish Youth Theatre (SYT) has shown its support for Glasgow 2014's engagement campaign Sport Your Trainers (SYT) by calling for all participants to wear their trainers on Commonwealth Day. The organisation has always placed great importance on being active and healthy in the many drama workshops and activities they run for the young people of Glasgow and Scotland.

Glasgow 2014 is asking people across Scotland to Step Up and set themselves a challenge for a fitter and healthier lifestyle and to celebrate their achievements by wearing their trainers on Commonwealth Day, which falls on Monday 12th March.

With the help of staff at Scottish Youth Theatre, young people will be asked to use their creativity within lessons and to try and influence parents and friends to Step Up before March 12th and wear their trainers with pride on Commonwealth Day!

The engagement campaign is now into its second year and allows people of all ages to get behind the Games, the campaign is asking people to become more active and becoming involved in Scottish Youth Theatre's activities is the perfect way to achieve this. The classes and workshops they run allow children to be confident, active and healthy.

Scotland's national theatre 'for&by' young people is now calling for applications for its annual flagship event, Summer Festival. The festival is a celebration of youth theatre comprising of five performance courses for ages 8 to 25 years. 'Twisted Shakespeare' will see the works of the world's best-loved playwright brought to life by young people from across Scotland, and in very unconventional ways. One of the three main house productions will also be part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a promenade performance taking place at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Hollyoaks actor and former Scottish Youth Theatre participant Andrew Still thanks his involvement with Summer Festival for landing him the role with the UK's most popular soap. "I'd recommend applying to do Summer Festival to anyone that has an interest in performing. It's a fantastic learning experience, a great opportunity to meet like minded people and feeling like part of a professional theatre company is a truly special experience like no other."

Glasgow 2014 will be the biggest event ever to come to Scotland, and through 'Sport Your Trainers', it's a great opportunity for everyone across the country to get involved with the Games and also a wonderful opportunity to achieve a fitter and healthier lifestyle.

"Sport Your Trainers is an enjoyable opportunity with a serious message, as one of the key ambitions behind bringing the Games to Scotland is to encourage far more people of all ages to get active and take part in regular exercise. It would be fantastic to see as many people as possible sporting their trainers on Commonwealth Day in support of the Games and healthy active lifestyles."

This is the second year of Sport Your Trainers which, last year, saw thousands of people from across the entire country getting into the spirit of the Games - from Arran to Aberdeen and Dumfries to Dundee, people put their best foot forward and joined in by pledging their support for the campaign.
