Host nation Scotland storm ahead in Twitter Games Leaderboard

Scotland's athletes are not the only ones performing out of their skin in Glasgow. The nation's fans have also surged ahead in the SSE GoGlasgow social leaderboard.

Energy firm SSE, Proud Partner of Glasgow 2014, has been asking fans to spur on their team by tweeting a simple hashtag of support via http://www.glasgow2014.com/sse-goglasgow. Fans from all over the world, including Sir Chris Hoy, Gethin Jones and Alex Salmon, have been getting involved and with just three days remaining Scotland sit proudly at the top of the pile.

With Scotland currently setting the pace on 16,332 tweets, the final three days’ action will see if Wales (8,658 tweets) can hold off England (2,966 tweets) and whether Northern Ireland’s boxing success will result in a late surge up the table. Which nation has the most fanatical Twitter fans? We’ll soon find out.

Every tweet will go towards helping athletes of the future through SSE’s Next Generation programme. SSE provides vital financial support to 100 young athletes across the UK. The higher your nation finishes on the social leaderboard, the more money will be awarded to its up and coming stars. View the Four Nations table
