Ironman Champion Targets Glasgow 2014

World Ironman Champion Leanda Cave says she’s keen to compete for Team Wales at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Cave switched from the standard triathlon distance to the longer endurance event of Ironman last year and took the discipline by storm, becoming the first female athlete to achieve the notable double of the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii and the half Ironman in Las Vegas.

“I race about four Olympic distance triathlons a year and am confident I can make the Commonwealth Games team. I want to race in Glasgow and it would be great to be back on home soil and race with Helen [Jenkins] and Non [Stanford]. We could have a really good team.”

If Cave does compete at Glasgow 2014, it will be her third appearance at a Commonwealth Games after competing at both the Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006 Games.
