We’re already over half way through the sporting action of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, but there is still plenty more to come!

Today sees the Commonwealth’s best Mountain Bikers take to the trails, gravity-defying strength on display as Weightlifting competition continues, and a tense head-to-head home nations battle for medal glory in Gymnastics.

Today’s thrilling medal matches include ShootingWrestling and Athletics, with seven Golds up for grabs in the famous Hampden Park. Highlights include the Men’s 100m Hurdles, Hammer Throw and Decathlon, and the Women’s 400m, 1500m, 10000m and Triple Jump.

Expect dirt, gravel and extreme skills at Cathkin Braes today, where the Mountain Bike competition makes its epic return to the Commonwealth Games after eight years. Scottish athletes to look out for including Kenta Gallagher and Kerry Macphee, however they’ll have tough competition from England and Canada – both winners of Commonwealth Gold medals.

Team GB put in a strong performance in London 2012’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics competition, however today sees forces split as Louis Smith and Max Whitlook of England take on Team Scotland’s Dan Purvis and Daniel Keatings on home turf.

We’ll see the last Swimming events on offer at the electric Tollcross International Swimming Centre. The Women’s 400m Freestyle will be another chance for Jazz Carlin of Wales to shine, after Sunday’s record-breaking swim in the 800m Freestyle.

It’s also a big day for Team Scotland’s Peter Kirkbride, with the Men’s 94kg event taking place at the SECC Precinct. At Delhi 2010 Peter was narrowly beat by Samoa’s Faavae Faauliuli – winner of his nation’s first ever Gold medal – who will be back to defend his Commonwealth title today.

Other exciting sports taking place today include the group stage matches for Hockey and Netball, the qualifying rounds for Singles Table Tennis, preliminaries for Women’s Boxing and the Men’s Boxing Quarter-finals – where the crowds are sure to be roaring themselves hoarse for the Commonwealth’ best boxers.

After yesterday’s Mixed Team Badminton Finals, the action continues in Emirates Arena today with athletes smashing shuttlecocks at up to 300 km/h to make their way through the tough preliminary rounds of the Singles and Doubles events.

In Squash, the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles competition kicks off at Scotstoun Sports Campus, and in Lawn Bowls there’s a packed day ahead with the Men’s Singles and Fours, Women’s Pairs, Triples and Fours and Para-Sport Open Triples taking place in the magnificent surroundings of Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre.

There are still great opportunities to be part of the Games. Grab you last minute tickets on our Ticketing website.

At Glasgow Green Live Zone you can enjoy a Musical Comedy Show presented by the legendary Glasgow International Comedy Festival, with acts including compere Brice Devlin and talents Ria Lina and Sarah-Louise Young.

If you’re heading along to today’s Lawn Bowls events, why not extend your day out at Kelvingrove Bandstand? There’s plenty going on, including a screening of Bill Forsyth’s movie masterpiece, Local Hero.
