Glasgow sportswear firm has designs on creating Glasgow 2014 Games uniforms

Trespass Sponsorship launch

Renowned outdoor clothing manufacturer Trespass has today (Tuesday, 26 February) been revealed as the Official Casual Uniform Provider to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Workforce.

This will include the design, manufacture and supply of outfits to be worn by Glasgow 2014’s army of up to 15,000 volunteers as well as members of the Games workforce.

Trespass will also design, manufacture and supply clothing to be worn by those accompanying the Queen’s Baton Relay as it moves through the Commonwealth on its iconic curtain-raising journey to build excitement to the Games.

The company originated in 1938 in Glasgow as Jacobs and Turner Limited, where its global headquarters are still located and today’s announcement was made.

The firm was acquired by the Khushi family in the 1960s and is today managed by brothers Afzal and Akmal Khushi who established the Trespass brand in 1984.

Trespass has since expanded to become one of the UK’s fastest growing brands with 140 stores and is set to open another 40 in the next 12 months. Trespass performance and outdoor clothing and equipment is sold successfully worldwide.

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive David Grevemberg said:

“I am delighted to welcome such a well-known brand and great Glasgow success story into the Glasgow 2014 family of sponsors.

“We were hugely impressed not just with the quality of the designs that Trespass presented us with but with their passion and enthusiasm to be part of our journey. Trespass is well known for both high quality and hard wearing clothing which is the perfect combination needed for the uniforms which will be worn by volunteers, workforce and Queen’s Baton Relay teams.

“The company will mark a major milestone in its history next year when it celebrates 30 years as the Trespass brand and it’s fantastic that by supporting the Games, the year 2014 will be a double celebration for them.”

Trespass co-founder Afzal Khushi said:

“We are fiercely proud of our roots and are incredibly excited to play our part in making the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games a resounding success.

“The ethos at the heart of our brand is access for all – we aim to provide top performance clothing that is affordable for everyone.

“In that spirit we have designed a range of sportswear, for activities including running, cycling and swimming, to encourage people to lead a more active lifestyle.

“The year 2014 was always going to be special for us since we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Trespass brand.

“We can think of no better way to mark this landmark date in our history than to help show the world what our home city has to offer.”

Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison said:

"It's fantastic to see another successful Scottish business playing such a key role in supplying the Games. Trespass is one that has grown from being a local business in Glasgow to a worldwide brand, but have not forgotten their roots.

"The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are continuing to bring real benefit to businesses in Scotland and I'd like to welcome Trespass to the Games family."

Councillor Archie Graham, Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, said:

“I am delighted that a Glasgow-based firm will supply the official casual workforce uniforms for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The Games will be the biggest ever showcase for Glasgow, and having products made by a company based here on such prominent display will demonstrate how the city can compete on the world stage.”
