Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - Conferences

Official website of the

XX Commonwealth Games

23rd July - 3rd August 2014

What are the conferences?

Young people who take part in the Lead 2014 programme will attend one of seven regional conferences held at universities across the country. These conferences underpin the plan to develop a pathway for young people to volunteer in sport.

Secondary schools are invited to select a team of up to eight young leaders to attend the conference which is focused on developing leadership and volunteering skills.

During the conferences, university students will lead workshops for young people who will be able to learn event management skills - enabling them to organise and deliver Commonwealth Games themed sport festivals within their school community.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Who are the conferences for?

The conferences are for young people (14+ years) who attend a secondary school in Scotland and the inclusion of all young people is a priority.

The conference is closely linked to existing leadership work in schools and helps support Sports Leaders UK Awards. It may also help support towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award qualification and has been designed to support outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence.

A parallel workshop is offered to all teachers, Active Schools Coordinators and leaders accompanying young people to this event.

Please select your pupils based on their leadership potential rather than their sporting ability, although an interest in sport and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is preferred.
