Public Opportunities

Over the next three years there will be a number of campaigns and initiatives held on the run up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This will give the public an opportunity to get involved with the spirit of the Games and this once in a generation event.

Campaigns such as ‘Sport Your Trainers’ which is a national campaign that is held annually on Commonwealth Day, the second Monday in March, and encourages the nation to wear their trainers in unity. The campaign was developed to capture the enthusiasm for Glasgow 2014 by the Scottish public, and ultimately involve people in the Games on a national scale.

Lead 2014 is a programme that is aimed at developing the leadership skills and harnessing the enthusiasm of young Scots in the build up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and its legacy, while engaging them with sport as a whole.

This years ‘Three Years to Go’ celebrations gave families a chance to experience a taste of what Glasgow will be like during games time. There was the opportunity to try out the 17 sports in the Glasgow 2014 programme with help from experienced athletes and coaches.
