Urban regeneration

We’re working on solid changes for the environment. And we are breathing new life into many areas of Glasgow – with a focus on neighbourhoods east of the city centre.

Big ideas are all about the little details. So what can you expect?

Trees and triple-A homes

We have already built the Athletes’ Village and it will be an incredible base for the competitors. Once the last race has been run, the Village will be transformed into an affordable, energy-efficient housing area where, thanks to tree planting and some very clever engineering, even the drainage is sustainable.

Venues to make the Games – and Scotland’s future stars

With 5,000 seats, there’s nothing else like the Commonwealth Arena in Scotland - or indeed, the rest of Europe. Facilities include:

— 12 badminton courts
— a 200-metre indoor athletics track
— outdoor multi-court areas
— dance studios
— fitness studios

The city’s Tollcoss Aquatic Centre has been upgraded to include a warm-up pool and full competition pool, in addition to a fitness suite and brand new changing facilities. It’s going to make a big difference to people in the east end of Glasgow.
